What is Back Pain?
Back pain is pain in the area between the tailbone and the upper back. Back pain is experienced by a large portion of the population at some point in their lives. It is a significant cause of lost productivity in the population.
Why Does Back Pain Occur?
The joints between the lumbar vertebrae are the most mobile parts of the spine. A significant portion of the movement during bending forward is done through the joints between the lumbar vertebrae.
Problems that may occur in these joints can cause back pain. Muscle-related pain accounts for a large portion of back pain. Some herniated discs, lumbar spine infections, osteoarthritis in the intervertebral joints, and intervertebral disc problems can also cause back pain. Some internal organ diseases can also cause pain radiating to the lower back.
How to Relieve Back Pain?
Treatment targeting the cause of back pain will relieve it. Since it is usually muscle-related pain, rest and warm compresses will relieve the pain. The use of pain-relieving creams and gels, as well as muscle relaxant and analgesic tablets, will also relieve the pain. In some cases, surgical treatment may be necessary for back pain.
If there is referred back pain due to internal organ diseases, correcting the internal organ disease will relieve the pain.
