What is Knee Pain?
Knee pain is pain that occurs around the knee. The pain may be in the front of the knee, on the sides, and behind the knee. The location of the pain in the knee is important for diagnosis.
What Causes Knee Pain?
Knee pain can occur due to many reasons such as knee cartilage problems, meniscus problems, ligament injuries, fractures, joint inflammation, muscle strains, and tumors. Pain occurring in the front of the knee is usually related to cartilage and meniscus problems. Pain in the back of the knee may be due to muscle strain. Pain accompanied by a feeling of instability in the knee and a sensation of sprain may be related to ligament injuries.
High fever accompanied by swelling and pain in the knee may be related to joint inflammation.
How to Relieve Knee Pain?
Knee pain is treated depending on the cause. Some knee problems can only be resolved with surgical treatment. Some problems can be resolved with physical therapy and medication. Severe meniscus tears, complete anterior cruciate ligament tears, and severe cartilage damage usually require surgical treatment. Simple sprains and strains are usually relieved with cold application and rest.
