What is Hand Pain?
Hand pain is pain in the area from the wrist to the fingertips. Hand pain can be in the palm or the back of the hand. Pain in the fingers is also considered hand pain. Hand pain can radiate to the wrist and arm.
What Causes Hand Pain?
Hand pain can be caused by rheumatic diseases, strains, traumas, infections, nerve compressions, and tumors. Hand pain usually occurs due to trauma and strains. Nerve compressions in the wrist and elbow often cause pain in the hand. Pain from some cervical disc herniations can be felt in the hand. Tendon and joint inflammations can also cause hand pain.
How to Relieve Hand Pain?
If the cause of hand pain is clearly identified, a better answer can be given. If there is a fracture in the hand bones, the pain can be permanently relieved with plaster casts or surgery. If there is inflammation in the hand tendons and around the joints, the pain will subside with antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatment.
If there is pain due to nerve compression, the causes that increase the compression should be eliminated.
What Helps with Hand Pain?
Hand pain is usually relieved by resting the hand and minimizing hand movement. Applying cold compresses will help with the pain. Pain relievers and creams are also generally effective for hand pain. Keeping the hand above heart level and avoiding movements that strain the hand will help with the pain.
