What is Hip Pain?

Hip pain is pain felt in the groin area, on the side of the hip, and in the back of the hip. The hip joint is the junction of the upper body and the legs. Pain in this area directly affects the musculoskeletal system.

What Causes Hip Pain?

Pain from problems affecting the hip joint is usually felt in the front, in the groin area, with increased movement.

Conditions such as osteoarthritis of the hip joint, cartilage damage in the hip joint, labrum tears, and impingement syndrome can cause hip pain. Trochanteric bursitis pain is felt on the side. Herniated discs sometimes manifest as pain in the back of the hip. Problems with the joint between the tailbone and the pelvis can also be a cause of pain in the back of the hip.

How to Relieve Hip Pain?

Finding the cause of hip pain and treating it accordingly will relieve the hip pain. In problems related to the hip joint, the pain is felt in the groin and increases with movement. This pain will usually subside with rest and the use of painkillers. If there is advanced joint damage such as hip osteoarthritis, hip replacement surgery will relieve the pain. Pain on the side of the hip may be related to trochanteric bursitis. In this case, cold applications and anti-inflammatory medications will relieve the pain. Pain from problems related to the lower back may be felt in the back of the hip. In this case, treatment for the problem in the lower back is recommended.

What Helps with Hip Pain?

Initially, rest will help with hip pain. The best remedies will vary depending on the cause of the pain. If the pain in the back of the hip is due to a herniated disc, physical therapy exercises and corset use will be beneficial. Since pain felt in the groin is usually caused by problems in the hip joint, minimizing hip movement will help relieve the pain.
